Life is a Song. Love is the Music.

For sometime now I've had the dream of using a piano as a dessert table. With the help of some amazingly talented people I took this dream and made it a reality. I styled this shoot for the online magazine "One Lovely Day" previously known as "My Little Jedi".

My inspirational quote for the shoot was "Life is a Song. Love is the Music." Pretty and Print designed the wedding invitation and other printables with this quote in mind.

The colour palette was black, white and red. These colours were chosen to achieve a sexy, sleek and elegant look.

For maximum impact the top level of the piano was used to display an amazing array of five spectacular cakes. Each cake had its own personality but suited the concept. I asked Jacki from Blissfully Sweet to describe each of the amazing cakes she created and these were her words:

"When I thought about what I wanted to create for this stunning shoot created by Natalie, I kept to the design brief provided. Sexy, black and white with touches of red and elegance. I then got to thinking of some cakes with complimentary designs that would best suit.

The main cake was a tower of black elegance and I wanted to incorporate movement of music in this cake, so single row of ruffles was snaked in a wave design on the side of the entire cake to give the illusion of movement.

The second cake was sexy, elegant and rustic at the same time. Silver leaf was roughly added to this cake to give it that gleam and then ruffled blooms cascaded down the front.

The third cake was again a play on movement. Alternating black and white tiers had their designs in white and black small beads – simple, yet effective.

The two smaller accent cakes framed the main three and also incorporated that touch of red. One cake had the graphics by Pretty & Print as the main feature with the LOVE insignia and the other had a red bow tied around the middle.

These simple touches made the cakes a complete set."

The middle tier of the piano was used to display a variety of sweet treats which included:
White chocolate and strawberry hearts
Vanilla pannacotta with balsamic strawberries
Buttercream ruffled cupcakes topped with oversized red ruffled blooms
Triple stacked cookie towers with ruffled buttercream and topped with red fondant petals
White chocolate coated sparkly cake pops
Vanilla macarons in black, white and red
White meringues with a drop of black candy
White pearl gumballs and red jaffas

The piano chair was used to display the rock candy swizzle sticks along with favors for the guests which included personalised chocolate bars and musical inspired tea light holders.

The bridal bouquet was designed and made by Red Poppies. Red flowers were chosen to provide contrast with the bridal gown and complement the red and black facinator worn by the bride model.

The wedding dress provided by Vellos Bridal was sleek and elegant.

Overall, the scene was set for an amazing musical inspired sexy, sleek and elegant wedding.

Melissa approached me seeking a Madagascar Dessert Table for her son Gerard's 1st birthday.

As always Blissfully Sweet did an amazing job on the Cake.

I approached Nicole from Pretty and Print to create the Backdrop, Thank you tags, Chocolate wrappers and Buffet labels. She chose a design to complement the design of the cake and then I took it from there.

Ocean Swirl Nautical Themed Dessert Table

Melissa came to me seeking a traditional nautical themed dessert table for her sons christening with the colour scheme red, white and navy blue.

I approached Pretty and Print to design some custom printables for the event and once I saw the custom design, it became the main inspiration for the dessert table.

Instead of using all traditional nautical themed symbols for the dessert table, I decided to incorporate the ocean swirls into the dessert table design. The colour scheme was then changed to red, white and all shades of blue (using navy blue for impact only).

I crafted the boats at the front of the table out of wooden disposable boat plates and painted them to match the colour scheme. I attached a red anchor to each of the boats. The flags in the boats spelt the christening boys name 'Gerard'. I then added two crafted red boats on top of round white footed bowls filled with blue candy, so it appeared that these two red boats were floating in the ocean.

The cake was a two tiered cake with ocean swirls on the bottom tier to match the printables and a gold anchor on top to stand out.

The other sweet treats on the table were nautical themed cupcakes and cookies with anchors, ocean swirls and lifebuoy toppers. Ocean jelly which replicated the ocean swirl colours on the printables and had lifebouys made out of fondant dangling on top, life bouy sailing macarons, rock candy oars, chocolates, cake pops and various types of candy to match the colour scheme.
